Delivered by our top team of University business innovation experts, this flexible series will build your knowledge and confidence to drive innovation in your business.
It will give you the tools you need to become resilient and agile, providing you with a competitive advantage in the future.
Understand the skills required to manage innovation projects
This workshop will help you to identify the skills and talents required in the various phases of developing of an innovation ‘project’.
Through interactive exercises you will gain an understanding about the strengths and weaknesses of your management team so you will be able to ensure that each player ‘pulls their weight’ when most appropriate in the innovation journey, and where you need to seek complementary skills to deliver a successful outcome.
By learning how to assess the talents and the inclinations of your business partners and team you can help to build capability in your team to deal with all aspects of an innovation ‘project’.
Workshop content
By identifying the various phases of an innovation project and the essential skills for each stage participants will learn how to;
- Define the skills and talents required in each phase of an innovation project
- Address the strengths and the limitations of innovation skills in the business
- Assess innovation profiles to ‘regulate’ the level of engagement and input from your team
- Develop strategies and practices to address any shortfall of key innovation profiles
Workshop led by innovation expert – Dr. George Tsekouras

Our RISE Innovation Advisory team will lead this session with Dr George Tsekouras, the Director of Centre of Change, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management (CENTRIM) at the University of Brighton.
George has been researching innovation for the last two decades and many research projects focusing on the management and support of innovation in SMEs. He created the peer to peer action learning programme Profitnet and has delivered many executive seminars and workshop to SMEs across the world.

Who should attend?
This workshop is suitable for business owners or those driving forward innovation in small or medium sized business. This could be Managing Directors or key people involved in the innovation process from cradle-to-grave, managers directly responsible for product or portfolio strategy, or those who play a more indirect role such as in sales, marketing, operations, finance, or R&D.
The workshop applies to not-for-profit ventures as long as there is a trading arm. EDRF eligibility rules apply. Spaces will be prioritised for West Sussex based businesses.
Eligibility and how to book
This workshop has been designed for businesses operating in the West Sussex area who are actively working on an innovation idea. However, businesses from across the region are also able to attend.
It is FREE to attend if you have joined the RISE project – either as a friend or member.

Confidentiality
We suggest that no commercially sensitive information is discussed. Any innovation project details and any new intellectual property information should be shared during a 1-2-1 session with our Innovation Advisors.
Access up to £5000 free expertise to develop ideas
RISE members will receive a RISE Recovery Innovation Certificate of Attendance when they complete 12 hours or more workshop time or support from the RISE project. As a RISE member there is also the opportunity to work with and access up to £5000 worth of academic expertise across both Brighton and Sussex Universities to develop your innovation project through our Access to Experts programme.
